PROMS SPECTACULAR - Sat 27th August

This year's Battle Abbey Proms concerts looks set to be two absolutely superb nights of music and fireworks. Held over the August Bank Holiday Weekend (August 27 & 28) the picnic-style concerts have become the biggest in the region.

This year's event comprises the Proms Spectacular on Saturday, August 27 and The Ultimate Party Night, starring The Bootleg Beatles, on Sunday, August 28.

The Proms Spectacular again features exuberant conductor Jae Alexander, leading the superb English National Orchestra through an evening of popular classics and all the favourites associated with 'The Last Night Of The Proms'.

This fun, flag-waving evening again features star tenor Wynne Evans and soprano Sarah Ryan and new for this year is an aerial display by an original World War 2 Hurricane, to the accompaniment of a selection of wartime musical themes.

The finale will include a breathtaking firework display and enthusiastic proms-goers are sure to add to the party atmosphere with picnics and a colourful array of evening wear and flags!

Musical Associates has been producing Proms Spectaculars for over 10 years, both as a private promoter and as a contractor for the National Trust, English Heritage, the Forestry Commission, the RAF and many borough councils throughout the UK.

Prior to forming MA, Rob McIntosh was a professional violinist, performing with a diverse number of orchestras and artists, from the RPO and the BBC to Level 42, Shirley Bassey and many more. During this time Rob studied the reaction of the audiences to various pieces performed at traditional outdoor Proms Concerts. He felt that a much more entertaining experience could be achieved if the music was programmed with the audience in mind rather than that of any individual performer.

Over the years MA has developed and refined what has now become a very successful formula which provides audiences with an unrivalled concert experience. The camaraderie and technical ability of the English National Orchestra; the unique ability of conductor Jae Alexander to involve and entertain the audience; the chemistry between the soloists; the quality of the stage, sound and lighting equipment; the thrilling and expert timing of the fireworks; big screens; aerial displays. These are all just some of the elements which make a Musical Associates Proms Spectacular such a wonderful experience.

Each year the creative team strives to constantly try and improve the experience for audiences. The most important part of the concert is - of course - the music and MA is firm in its belief that audiences are there to be entertained, not educated, as some concert programmes seem intent on doing! At an MA Proms Spectacular, traditional favourites such as Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture sit happily alongside more contemporary classics, such as John Williams' brilliant theme composed for the Harry Potter movies. The concerts naturally feature all the favourites associated with 'The Last Night Of The Proms' such as Rule Britannia, Pomp and Circumstance No.1 and Jerusalem, with audience participation heartily encouraged!

Musical Associates is privileged to produce concerts at some of Britain's most beautiful and historic locations, which provide the perfect setting for an evening picnic concert. The combination of all the aforementioned elements result in an unrivalled entertainment experience which is both truly unique and truly British.
