ET COMMENT: Fitness and organisation the key words - 01/06/05

Swanny's Verdict - IF Posh perform as well as new manager Mark Wright did on his London Road debut yesterday, expect a swift return to League One.

Wright is a disciplinarian which the players need, a straight-talker which the media need and he's not Barry Fry, which is what the fans' need.

As Fry himself said, Wright is a new broom with which to sweep a new era into London Road and he will surely receive the full backing of the club's supporters and the local media, two organisations steeped in cynicism in recent seasons.

Wright spoke passionately and with authority on a number of subjects, but the twin themes of fitness and organisation kept returning.

Posh may not be a pretty side under the new boss, but who really cares if the end results justify the means? His most recent managerial record at Chester demands respect and if he can repeat that at a slightly higher level we can all start dreaming of a promotion push.

Wright himself wasn't careless enough to predict promotion (another welcome change after years of over-optimism), but one senses he has the self-confidence to believe deep down it could happen.

The Evening Telegraph welcomes Mark Wright and we genuinely hope he proves to be an inspired choice.
